Chenopodium ambrosioides. Annual. 4'.

Pungent culinary herb. Epazote leaves are used to season Mexican bean dishes and sauces. This vigorous plant will grow up to 4' in rich soil, with full sun. Hard pruning will do no harm, once established. Glossy foliage is unique to this selection by Frank Morton of Wild Garden Seeds. Attracts beneficial insects especially fall syrphid flies.

Planting Directions:  Sow seed in sterile seed starting medium maintaining temperatures of 70° to 80°.  Press into soil lightly. Allow 3 weeks for germination.  Transplant directly to a sunny spot in the garden.  Try to disturb the roots as little as possible.  To direct sow wait until the soil has warmed, and plant seed to twice its depth and do not allow the soil to become dry during the 3 week germination period.  Thin to 8” apart.

Remarks:  Three or four plants may be sown in a 8” pot on a deck or balcony.  The plant size will be reduce but this is a sturdy herb and can withstand a bit of crowding.
